EVENTs and Sales

The Friends sponsor several events and exhibits every year, including our quarterly book sales and special creative programs.

LOBBY BOOKSTORE

The Friends Bookstore is on the left wall inside the library entrance.  We sell a variety of current magazines and paperbacks (50 cents each) and newer books of all genres. Hardcover and softcover books are individually priced. A free-standing bookcase holds a variety of individually priced books.

BOOK SALES

We hold book sales on three Saturdays per year in March, July, and November.

Our next book sale is scheduled for Sat., November 8, 2025,10:00am to 2:00pm. Arrive at 10am for the best selection! You'll find adult fiction and nonfiction (mystery, romance, biography, gardening, travel, history, cookbooks--you name it) as well as a terrific selection of children's books, jigsaw puzzles, CDs, and DVDs. Friends members receive two tickets for free fiction or nonfiction books.

Note: Book sales can accept only cash and checks.

eBAY SALES

The Friends have redoubled their efforts to sell books and other items online, and our new eBay store is going strong! Some of our donated items are now being sold in our eBay shop here. Items that sell best are classic or vintage-type books, book collection series, and homeschooling textbooks.

SILENT AUCTIONS

We hold several silent auctions per year. Items for sale are displayed for one month in the community window near the staff desk. Most silent auctions have a theme, such as special holiday gifts or Mother's Day items. Our next Silent Auction will take place in November 2025.

We appreciate donated items such as new or gently used accessories, home items, decor, jewelry, etc. Please bring donations to the library front desk.

COMMUNITY WINDOW DISPLAYS

Several months a year, we invite Nipomo nonprofit and community groups to display their activities in the Friends' community window near the staff desk.

Some of the groups we've featured have included the Olde Towne Quilters of Nipomo, SLO Womenade, the Nipomo Food Basket, the Nipomo Native Garden (shown in the picture on the right), and the Nipomo 4H Club. If your group would like to sponsor a display, please contact us at info@friendsofnipomolibrary.org.

SPONSORED EVENTS AND CREATIVE DISPLAYS

Some of the programs we have sponsored include the annual Trilogy Art Group Art Show and the Watermedia Exhibition of the  Central Coast Watercolor Society (CCWS), both of which benefit the Friends.

DONATE ITEMS AND VOLUNTEER AT EVENTS

The Friends greatly appreciate donated items. The proceeds from the sale of books and other items directly support programs for your Nipomo Library.

New Guidelines for Book Donations

We've seen an avalanche of donations to the Friends' lobby bookstore and thrice-yearly book sales with the closure of the Arroyo Grande Library for major renovation. Please keep the donations coming, but bear in mind these ground rules:

  • A limit of 2 small boxes or 2 bags can be donated at one time.

  • All items must be clean and not damaged.

  • Donations are accepted only when the library is open.

The following items are welcome: new and gently used books (fiction/nonfiction/large print/children's); CDs and DVDs; audiobooks; jigsaw puzzles; magazines less than 6 months old.

To help at one of our events, such as the book sales or silent auctions, please email info@friendsofnipomolibrary.org.
